Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.
